Title: Messung der Lebensqualität von Allergikern mit einer Nahrungsmittelallergie
Language: German
Authors: Ercel, Suna
Issue Date: 25-Jan-2017
Abstract:

Food allergy (FA) is becoming a growing public health problem. Strict avoidance of the culprit foods is the only therapy for these days. For people with FA it is necessary to always be attentive of what they are eating. For that reason, the FA is having a great impact of the health related quality of life (HRQL). In Germany there exists only one monocentric study with that topic. The aim of this study is to measure the HRQL of German food allergic people with the standardized instrument, the Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire – Adult Form (FAQLQ-AF) with descriptive questions included. On top of it the construct validity and internal consistency should be measured. Therefore, the FAQLQ-AF was published in different social media networks. Afterwards the results of 35 food allergic participants were analyzed. The FAQLQ-AF showed a good internal consistency (α = 0,97) and a good construct validity (correlation between FAQLQ-AF and FAIM r = 0,73, p < 0,001). The attenders showed a moderately impairment in HRQL (x̅ = 3,56 ± 1,39). There were significant differences in age, number and type of FA. Consequently, the FAQLQ-AF is a suitable instrument for measuring the HRQL of the German population. The HRQL of older people and those with more than FA is significantly more impaired. Additionally, participants with milk, egg or seafood allergy have a significantly worse HRQL.
