Abstract:
The chronical obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is allready one of the leading deadly diseases and numbers are rising.
Smoking is one of the main causes of COPD. The disease is not curable, a treatment only relieves symptoms. In severe cases, the a ected su er from hypoxemia and thus lose quality of life which results in a downwards spirale.
If a patient‘s state is severe and stable, treating with long term oxygen therapy is possible but to stay mobile, the patient needs a mobile oxygen device.
There are many devices which all di er from each other. The aim of this bachelorthesis is to examine how distinct the di ernces betweeen eight pulse dose oxygen concentrators and two liquid oxygen devices are.
At rst, a demand oxygen test system is used to measure while applying two di erent breathing frequencies. Afterwards, the method of cost–utility analysis is used rating the ten devices.
It was found that even the same device type di ers a lot at the same pulse dose setting.
Furthermore, the technical aimed cost-utility analysis revealed three favourites.
More research is needed, especially focusing on the paramters of pulse dose delivery systems. The exact factors are still unclear.
