Floods are considered one of the most widespread natural disasters worldwide, causing significant economic losses, damage to infrastructure and casualties in flood-prone areas. As the global population grows and the climate changes, not only floods become more intense, but also the number of affected people increases. Therefore, information and communication technologies play a significant role in disaster risk management, as they enable the dissemination of information to large populations as well as support awareness and preparedness. Although mobile warning systems have proven to be useful and accessible, multiple studies indicate that user engagement with these technologies remains relatively low. The research within this bachelor thesis investigates the ways of increasing user’s engagement in mobile warning systems via gamification. The goal is to determine whether gamification is effective in the context of disaster risk management and whether it would be accepted by users. To achieve this, methodology of Design Science Research (DSR) is used, which includes identifying the problem via systematic literature review, making suggestion based on the literature, creating an IT-artefact and evaluating it through user interviews.
